Culture

The Island of Krk is rich in historical monuments. On your way, monuments that date back to prehistoric times will interchange with those of the modern era. The rich Glagolitic heritage is present at almost every angle, whilst the Baška tablet, the most important monument of the Croatian language and literature, can be found in the church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor, near Baška. Besides being famous for its Glagolitic lapidarium, the Monastery of St. Mary Magdalene in Porat is also a museum with many exhibits from the past. During the summer its atrium becomes the stage for classical music concerts. Nearby is the islet of Košljun where the forest reserve and monument of culture perfectly bond together. The historic town of Krk that fascinates with its representative medieval heritage complex, the Mirine complex near Omišalj, which is part of the abandoned ancient city of Fulfinum and the picturesque Vrbnik, which rises magnificently above the sea, are well worth a visit.
